melbourne exhibtion centre...

The new Melbourne Exhibition and Convention Centre was built to replace the Royal Exhibition Building and is located in Southbank, Melbourne, Victoria.
Designed by Australian Architecture firm Denton Corker Marshall (DCM), the project was opened in 1996. In 2005, DCM was appointed State Architect for Victoria.

The exhibition centre has a 30 000 square meter pillarless floorspace, making it the largest of its kind in the Southern Hemisphere and a structural masterpiece. Its size is fitting for its purpose of hosting large National and International events.
Angled columns at the Centre's entrance softens the building's edge and provides a smooth indoor to outdoor transition. It allows for views over the park and river also.

The building features a high "blade" entrance (characteristic to DCM). By protruding into other planes of opposing angles, a bold statement is made and the welcoming gesture is enthusiastic.
